Alcanta International College (AIC) is an IB World School, authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer the Diploma Program. It is the only IB World School in Guangzhou that admits both international and Chinese nationals.

AIC offers a four-year Pre-Diploma Program (Grade 7, Grade 8, Grade 9 and Grade 10), followed by the two-year IB Diploma Program (Grade 11 and 12).

The AIC Pre-DP has been designed by our IB experts to prepare students to meet the challenges of the rigorous IB Diploma Program. We have borrowed material from a variety of systems and tailored to meet the specific expectations of the IBDP.

The IBDP consists of six subject groups:

1.  First Language and Literature

2.  Language Acquisition (A second or third language)

3.  The Humanities

4.  The Experimental Sciences

5.  Mathematics

6.  The Arts

In addition, IBDP students engage in a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course and a Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) component to qualify for the IB Diploma, as well as completing the Extended Essay (EE), a 4,000-word research paper in one of their areas of interest.

The AIC pre-Diploma Program consists of the following six subject groupings:

1.  First Language and Literature

2.  Second Language

3.  Humanities

4.  Experimental Science

5.  Mathematics

6.  The Arts (Visual Art and Drama)

Additional core components are Information Technology (IT) and Learning to Learn (L2L).

IBDP students sit for the standardized IB examinations in May of their final year at AIC. An IB qualification is accepted by thousands of universities worldwide. Students with strong IB Diplomas can receive up to a year of college credits from some universities.

Since its establishment in 1968, the IB Diploma has gained steadily in popularity, and is today recognized as the “gold standard” of pre-university education worldwide. The IBO has 4971 member schools (as of October 2017) in 147 countries.
