<h2>Advanced Placement (AP) Program</h2>Advanced Placement (AP) Program offers college-level curriculum and testing to high school students. The AP gives students the chance to tackle college-level work while they are still in high school. Through taking the AP exams, students can earn college credit and placement. AP prepares them for higher education and success.The AP Program at AIC is comprised of six subject groups, learning skills, holistic education, and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service).&nbsp;The AP program allows students to pursue subject-specific interests at the university level of study, problem solving skills, independent researching ability, and great leadership to organize and cooperate. Students can also choose courses in Biology, Environmental Science and Societies, Music, and Drama through our IBDP program. 声浪掀翻屋顶, 气氛嗨翻校园,&nbsp;如此火热的氛围，不是哪位明星的演唱会，而是由CAS活动乐队组的同学和AIC多位音乐爱好者们组织策划的AIC Band night。一曲《Dark Paradise》，拉开了活力无限的Band night序幕。音乐响起，气势瞬间爆发，一时间整个校园被音乐“塞”满，大家激情四射。CAS活动乐队组的同学与当晚参演的同学、老师利用课余的时间筹备、组织与多次排练, 带给了全校师生一场极限爆炸, 音浪风暴, 颅内低音, 狂野冲撞的精彩表演。&nbsp;表演者充分的展现了对音乐的热情与天赋, 舞台融合了架子鼓、吉他、贝斯、电子琴等乐器的组合演出, 歌手们演绎了多首中、英文歌曲, 使在场的每一位观众热血沸腾。第二届AIC校园户外音乐会, 在全校师生热情呼喊“encore”的气氛下圆满结束, “星星在你的眼里闪烁, 月亮的光华铺在你未来的道路 ” 时光不会刻薄你, 愿我们AIC学子在人生中一路披荆斩棘, 通过一次次的CAS活动组织中, 不断挑战自我, 超越自我, 精彩未来可期!

<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/_8ee09194ce.jpg">11月1日, AIC西班牙语老师Rosio组织了一次小型的墨西哥“亡灵节”演讲, 该活动旨在为学生提供了一个跨国文化的学习机会, 推进跨国文化交流的普世情怀, 培养我们的学生成为具有国际情怀的人。活动当天, Rosio老师与学生带着墨西哥当地人在亡灵节的装扮, 布置亡灵节的祭坛,带动了整个节日的气氛, 让学生们身临其境。DP1的Abby、Jolina、Eddie和Albert同学用西班牙语演讲搭配英语翻译, 向同学和老师介绍了亡灵节的由来与其意义, 让在座的每一位师生感受到浓厚的印第安民族文化特色。亡灵节在西班牙语中叫 “Día de los Muertos”，是墨西哥的传统；这个国家位于美洲大陆；这一天通常在 11 月 1 日或 2 日。它在墨西哥文化中有着重要的地位，印第安土著文明相信，人死后会经历一段漫长的旅程到达“米特兰（mictlan）”，即人死后居住的世界，之后仅有一天能回到人间与活着的亲人相聚，这一天就是亡灵节。这是一个非常有意义的庆祝活动，家人们团聚在一起，唱歌，跳舞，吃墨西哥传统食物，他们用所爱的人的照片、鲜花和食物做成祭坛,纪念逝去的人。卡特里娜象征着死亡，在这些日子里，人们通常画着骷髅的脸来象征她。对墨西哥人来说，这个传统代表着他们作为一个国家的身份。IB 课程的使命宣言中提出 :“国际文凭组织的目标是培养勤学好问、知识渊博、富有爱心的年轻人，他们通过对多元文化的理解和尊重，为开创更美好、更和平的世界贡献力量。”国际文凭课程的核心理念是培养学生成 为具有国际情怀/意识(International-mindedness)的人，通过跨国界议题的学习及与之相关的批判和合作等能力的应用，以形成有益于推进跨文化理解、和平共处及全球可持续发展等为人类将来服务的态度及行动。

The event aimed to provide students with a platform for transnational cultural learning and to promote the universal sentiment of transnational cultural exchanges and to cultivate in our students the knowledge and experiences to become people with international sentiments.Rosio and students from the Spanish class decorated an altar to celebrate the 'Day of the Dead' with some costumes especially used for this occasion, which did not only bring the class together but also gave other students the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the Mexican culture. Students from DP1, including Abby, Jolina, Eddie and Albert, gave speeches in Spanish with English translations to introduce the origin of the 'Day of the Dead', giving everyone an experience and understanding of this traditional element of the Mexican culture.The 'Day of the Dead' or the 'Día de los Muertos' (in Spanish) is a tradition in Mexico; This country is located in the American continent. This special day is usually celebrated on the first or second of November. It has an important place in the Mexican culture because it connects people with their loved ones who passed away. This is a celebration of happiness where the families are gathered with singing, dancing and eating Mexican traditional food near the altars they make and decorate it with flowers and the pictures of their loved ones. This whole celebration is for the remembrance of the people they love that passed away. The Katrina represents death, during these days the people usually paint their faces to symbolize her. For Mexicans, this tradition tells who they are as a country.This activity made our students realize that cross-cultural understanding is closely related to language learning. By learning the languages of other ethnic groups, they can increase their cognition of other ethnic groups and appreciate their different lifestyles, thereby developing a positive treatment of others. Attitude, this is exactly in line with IB's educational philosophy. IB attaches great importance to the cultivation of learners' 'International Mindedness' in order to have the ability of 'cross-cultural understanding'. 'International sentiment' has always been implemented in the training goals of learners.

Last weekend, four AIC students will be entering the national finals of the EdTA Young Thespian competition. The students are all enrolled on the AIC LAMDA course and will be taking exams at the beginning of June.Due to epidemic prevention, the EdTA competition is online this year, and all participants have submitted a two-minute monologue to the panel of judges. Enreach education is the only educational institution that EdTA cooperates with strategically in China.EdTA works with Dipont Education and founded EdTA China in 2014. EdTA China holds English drama festivals for teenagers. Students can get credits from the official website by participating in drama festivals and other drama activities.Founded by EdTA and Dipont Education （operated by ENREACH Education） in 2014, EdTA China is officially authorized by EdTA as the only official representative to be responsible for organizing, operation, selecting and teaching management services on all kinds of drama activities and programs holding in China.The mission of EdTA China is to create an educational and artistic network for theatre arts educators, students, and enthusiasts to share ideas and support the effort to have drama opportunities accessible to all students. EdTA China supports EdTA’s mission to have drama recognized in all phases of education and lifelong learning.Three finalists will be judged from among the participants, and they will take part in the final being streamed live later in June. Judges for the final include the casting director from Shanghai Disney, Dave Bennett.Delia from IGCSE2 shared her thoughts about acting: "Acting to me is nice because you get to explore situations and feelings beyond what you've experienced in your own life. It's a nice escape from what you're always used to".Jackson from IGCSE1 had this to say, “I like drama performance, and drama is very important to me.&nbsp;It is an attitude towards life: I can express myself differently in language and body”.Drama teacher Nicola, one of the judges in the competition, says the competition will be stiff. In November, Nicola went to the regional finals in Shenzhen with Delia: they were both impressed at how much talent there was."It would be great to get into the final", says Nicola, "but if not, it is still a beneficial experience. Even though the competition is online, candidates must consider their presentation skills and show the best version of themselves".We wish our students the very best of luck in the competition.

从小对艺术绘画的热情让我想在大学期间学习艺术专业。视觉艺术和戏剧课程也一直是我的最爱。在百忙之中，它们总可以让我放松身心、释放能量。在课余创作中，我发现自己很享受设计角色、讲述故事、并把一个全新的世界展现在观众眼前的过程。参观AIC的时候，我一下就被六楼浓厚的艺术氛围征服了。随后在与校长和老师的面谈中，我充分了解到了AIC的IB课程远不止于拿到好成绩那么简单。它看重及培养的是学生们积极探究的兴趣、懂得关爱的善心、勇于尝试的动力以及平衡生活与学业的能力。这种与我初中时截然不同的教育理念让我对AICIB课程产生了极大的兴趣。<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/A2_3caeae203c.jpg">AIC是一所非常尊重学生的学校。学生所提出的合理建议都会由学生会直接转达至校长进行处理。我记得PDP3的时候，学生事务调和员就和我们讨论收手机这一规则的利弊，并以非常尊重我们的态度聆听我们的想法。在这种学校氛围中，学生的权力得到了尊重。同时，我学习到如何合理地表达自己的需求，也学会了如何站在他人和学校的角度思考问题。学校能给予学生很多机会。虽然AIC规模较小，但是也因此凸显了个体的重要性。刚来到AIC的时候，我胆小、内向、不会争取机会。在一次排球比赛中，我被“逼迫”着上场。尽管我们学院没有人会排球，但是通过不断的训练和团队合作的意识，我们最终夺得了第二名的好成绩。通过那次比赛，我体会到了我在团体中的重要性，并学会主动去抓住机会。不仅如此，AIC提供的教育和国际本科教育方式十分相似。在AIC，很少有老师会一步一步带着学生去学习，考验了学生们自主探究的能力。这四年中，我学会用谷歌、YouTube去搜索我想了解的知识。这个过程不仅提升了我的搜索能力，还锻炼了我的阅读速度、听力能力和理解的准确性，让我能更容易地跟外国人沟通，并为我准备标化考试和打下了坚实的基础。<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/A3_7679ade002.jpg">我印象最深的经历是担任学生会主席。在此之前，我一直没有参与过学生会，所以对流程非常不熟悉。在询问了上届学生会成员之后，我将学生会设定为一个收集学生意见、讨论解决方式、并与学校沟通的服务于学生的集体。通过学生会意见箱和大大小小的会议，我们购置了架子，以处理书包乱扔的问题；我们还与多个老师沟通，以解决学生提出的建议。在2021-2022学年的开始，我们准备了为时一天的开学典礼。早在上一学年的五月份，我们就已经完成规划并分配好任务。暑假期间，我也与品学兼优的Tiffany副会长撰写、排练演讲稿并制作PPT，以求开幕式万无一失。提前返校后，我们发出去多封邮件，并与各个项目的负责老师沟通交流，确保我们一切顺利。在所有学生会成员的努力下，开幕式圆满举行，并受到了诸多好评，我们也感到满满的成就感。另一件难忘的事情发生于DP1我们组织的一次CAS活动。我们的CAS项目旨在学习、宣传可持续农业发展，因此我们打算去一个农场实地学习。最开始，我们并没有多方面考虑这个行为的影响，因此我们的计划差点被CAS调节员否决。通过与老师的沟通，我们认识到我们需要考虑安全、防疫和责任的问题。因此，我们制定了行为准则、与学校沟通这次的行程、并查看了官方防疫规定。最后，我们顺利地完成了我们的计划。这次经历让我体会到个人行为背后所需要考虑的道德伦理问题，也让我在做出行动之前理性思考其可能带来的后果和影响。&nbsp;<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/A4_5a82eeeb3b.png">从小对艺术绘画的热情让我想在大学期间学习艺术专业。在AIC的这四年中，视觉艺术和戏剧课程也一直是我的最爱。在百忙之中，它们总可以让我放松身心、释放能量。在课余创作中，我发现自己很享受设计角色、讲述故事、并把一个全新的世界展现在观众眼前的过程。因此，我选择了动画这一与艺术、表演、想象力和思想都息息相关的专业作为申请方向。刚开始听说艾米丽卡尔是在我pdp3的时候，因此，我很早就开始着手准备申请了。在pdp4时，我成功申请到了罗德岛动画专业的夏校课程，而后因为疫情没法过去，上了CalArts（加州艺术学院）为期两周的线上夏校。在夏校中，我看到了来自世界各地同龄人的画作，也意识到了自己基础的薄弱。后来，我便“恶补”基本功，在暑假的时候每天都练习一个多小时速写。总体来说，我觉得准备作品集最重要的是用易懂的方式准确表达自己的所思所想，许多院校看重的也正是这一点。我会在生活中观察并记录有趣的事情和人物形象，画在sketchbook上，作为我之后项目的灵感来源。基本功也非常重要。只有有了基本功，才可以将自己脑海中的画面成功地呈现在观众眼前。因此，我也经常练习速写、色彩和构图，把他们当作我每天必须要完成的事情。

My passion for art drawing since I was a child made me want to study art for my undergraduate degree. The Visual Arts and Drama classes have also been my favorites throughout my four years at AIC. In my spare time, I found myself enjoy designing characters, telling stories, and bringing a whole new world to the audience.When I visited AIC, I was conquered by the strong artistic atmosphere on the art floor. In subsequent interviews with the Head of School and teachers, I fully understood that AIC's IB program is much more than just getting good grades: it values and cultivates students' interest in active inquiry, caring kindness, motivation to try, and to balance life and study. This educational philosophy is so much different to my junior high school which made me very interested in AIC-IB.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/A2_3caeae203c.jpg">AIC is a very respectful school for students. Reasonable suggestions made by students will be forwarded to the Head of School by the student Council. I remember when I was in PDP3, the student affairs dispatcher and the staff discussed the benefits of the cell phone rule with us; we were listened to and respected. In a school like this, where I am valued, where I am empowered and allowed to think about matters from different angles is what I like most.Although AIC is small community, it gives students many opportunities; it also highlights the importance of the individual.&nbsp;When I first came to AIC, I was timid, introverted, and not willing to take chances.&nbsp;Once in a volleyball game, I was “encouraged” to play. Although no one in our House was good at volleyball, through constant training and teamwork, we finished second. Because of that competition, I realized how important I was in the group and learned to take initiatives to seize opportunities I was presented with.The education provided by AIC is very similar to that of international undergraduate education.&nbsp;At AIC, very few teachers take students to learn step by step; instead, they test the students' ability to explore independently and constantly encourage it. In the past four years, I learned to use Google and YouTube to search for the knowledge I wanted to know. This process not only improved my research skills, but also improved my reading speed, listening ability and comprehension accuracy; it made it easier for me to communicate with foreigners, and laid a solid foundation for me to prepare for standardized tests.My most memorable experience was serving as the Student Council President. I had never been involved in the student union before. I was very unfamiliar with it. After talking to the previous student council members, I gathered the student council as a group to serve students by collecting students' opinions, discussing solutions, and communicating with the school through the Student Council suggestion box and meetings. We purchased shelves to deal with the problem of schoolbags littering; we also communicated with multiple teachers to address suggestions made by students. At the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year, we prepared the first student organized orientation for students. As early as May of the previous school year, we had finished planning and assigned tasks. During the summer vacation, I also wrote and rehearsed speeches and made PPTs with the Vice President, Tiffany, who is excellent in both character and study, so as to ensure that the opening ceremony was a success. After returning to school early, we sent out multiple emails and communicated with the teachers in charge of each project to ensure that everything went smoothly for us. Thanks to the efforts of all the members of the student union, the event was successfully held and we received a lot of praise. We also felt a full sense of achievement.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/A3_7679ade002.jpg">Another unforgettable incident happened at a CAS event we organized in DP1. Our CAS program aimed to learn and promote sustainable agricultural development. We intended to go to a farm to learn on the ground. In the beginning, we didn't consider the impact of this behavior in many ways; unfortunately, our plan was rejected by the CAS coordinator. Through communication with teachers, we realized that we needed to consider the issues of safety, epidemic prevention and responsibility. Therefore, we developed a code of conduct, communicated with the school about this trip, and reviewed the official epidemic prevention regulations. In the end, we successfully completed our plan. This experience made me realize the moral and ethical issues that needed to be considered behind personal actions, and it also made me think rationally about the possible consequences and impacts before taking actions.My passion for art drawing since I was a child made me want to study art in college. Therefore, I chose animation, a major that is closely related to art, performance, imagination and thought as the application direction. I first heard about Emily Carr when I was in PDP3, so I started preparing for the application very early. In the PDP4, I successfully applied for the Rhode Island animation summer school program, and then because of the epidemic, I went to CalArts (California college of the Arts) for a two-week online summer school. In the summer school, I saw paintings from my peers from all over the world, and I also realized the weakness of my foundation. Later, I "reinforced" the basic skills and practiced sketching for more than an hour every day during the summer vacation.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/A4_5a82eeeb3b.png">In general, I think the most important thing in preparing a portfolio is to accurately express what you think in an easy-to-understand way, which is what many colleges are looking for. I will observe and record interesting things and characters in my life and draw them on my sketchbook as an inspiration for my future projects. Basic skills are as important, with basic skills can you easily and clearly present the picture in your mind to the audience. I also practice sketching, coloring, and composition a lot, treating them as things I must do every day.

The biology class students were very excited last week as they had the opportunity of dissecting a real heart! Dressed in white lab coats and with all the scissors and knives around, the lab looked like a real operation theater. Some were thrilled, some afraid, and a few preferred to watch from far.Students first watched a video with instructions on how to dissect the heart. They then had to hold the heart and put it on the dissecting trays. There were some screams at that time, but they were thrilled holding a real heart in their hands!<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/S1_9e7af70bab.png">The external structure of the heart was first studied. Students could identify the anterior and posterior part of the heart and the major blood vessels. They could also see the coronary blood vessels, the ones which, if blocked, led to a heart attack!The exciting part was cutting the heart open. The students were fascinated at seeing what the internal structure looked like, how powerful, and thick the muscles were, and the clear difference between the right and left parts of the heart. They could identify the right and left ventricles and atria, the major blood vessels, the thick septum that kept the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood separate. The most peculiar structures inside were ‘the strings of the heart’, the chordae tendinea which held the valves of the heart.After exploring and studying all the different areas of the heart, the students made a drawing of the internal structure. They were also given worksheets which further explained the concepts to them and tested their knowledge.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/S2_e2b8350cad.png">The students enjoyed the class and had a good visualization of how the living body, systems and organs work.

The final scores of students are composed of internal evaluation (20%-30%) and global unified examination results (70%-80%). On Friday, August 5th, 2022, AIC invited parents to attend a parent orientation to present the school's mission, vision and ethos. A number of parents from different grade levels attended the 3-hour long workshop in which they learned important Information about AIC and how it operates. The session began with a welcome message from our Head of School, Bob Darwish. The importance of school-parent partnership in providing quality education was an important element of his speech. Parents were also introduced to the School Leadership Team.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_2146_343ede5125.JPG">The IGCSE Coordinator, Donnie XIA, led the session on AIC graduate profile. In this session, parents were invited to share their views about each of the 13 graduate attributes which come from the IB Learner Profile and Cambridge Learner Attributes. Parents shared their ideas and acted out what they thought each of the attribute meant. By the end of the session, the participants understood how AIC helps its students embody these learner attributes.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_2177_fe396a62ba.JPG"><img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_2242_0108cce0b0.JPG"><img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_2308_9858ed2a63.JPG">In the next session, the IBDP Coordinator, David Dai, talked about the school’s mission, vision and the school programs：Foundation Program, IGCSE Program, and the IB Diploma Program.&nbsp;He emphasized that the students at AIC would be prepared to be balanced, reflective, thinkers, communicators and problem-solvers. Students at AIC are encouraged to be independent learners with good self-management and time-management skills and caring, and kind personalities. Parents participated in a quiz in which their knowledge was tested, and they did admirably well.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_2380_e0e9757171.JPG">n the 3rd session, Kenneth Ndaama, the Curriculum Coordinator, introduced the teaching and learning at AIC. He stressed that AIC teachers bring a variety of teaching and learning skills and styles in their classes. Teachers use visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles to ensure each student's needs are met. Kenneth also mentioned metacognition, experiential learning and the development of knowledge and skill in AIC. Additionally, Kenneth also invited the parents to visit the school and classes by making a booking through the mentors.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_2399_20b5d021aa.JPG">Next, Phoenix Yang, the Dean of Students, introduced the daily routine, electronic policy, school uniform policy, mentor program and attendance. The new and returning AIC students arrived on campus this week with full enthusiasm, ready to meet their friends and teachers, and start the 2022-2023 academic year.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_2549_f1f28086d3.JPG">On 10th August, AIC teachers and staff were ready to welcome all our returning students. The registration process and precautions were well prepared by the administration department with a high sense of responsibility and a good spirit.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_2668_1eb9277eff.JPG">On 11th August, the student orientation was in full swing. In the new academic year, AIC not only welcomed lovely new students, but also a group of excellent teachers to join our family. The excitement and life on campus has been visible this week, after a long summer. Welcome back, everyone.In order to bring our community together, AIC launched a series of orientation activities. Orientation at AIC starts with a welcome speech by the Head of School, followed by the introduction of teachers and staff. In this academic year, we have restored the previous traditions of AIC, including the AIC Mentor System for the management of students. Mentor groups are divided by Houses. The IGCSE and IBDP programs have four mentor groups, one representing each of the Houses.&nbsp;The mentors work with the students in building positive relationships and in supporting them throughout their journey at AIC. The students from different grades in the mentor groups communicate with each other in order to solve problems and support each other in meeting their goals. At the end of the day each mentor group reflected on their experiences as the summary of the day. IB education emphasizes the all-round development of students, that is, the balanced development of intelligence, body and emotion is very important to the physical and mental health of oneself and others.Through the student orientation activities, the students' attention and divergent thinking abilities are tested, and the team cooperation and cohesion is enhanced. Students also learn how to communicate clearly and effectively with their team as they plan and put together strategies to win the various competitions they participate in. Students also learn how to formulate plans, divide labor, coordinate, and show good leadership and teamwork skills.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_3140_6e72f84621.JPG">AssemblyOn 12th August, the first Assembly of the 2022-2023 academic year was held in the&nbsp;AIC Theater. Bob Darwish, Head of&nbsp;School, hosted the first&nbsp;session in which he welcomed the new and returning students. Students were given some time to get to know a new student, someone they did not knot, and to chat to someone they know. He then spoke about three important goals for the academic year 2022-2023:<ul><li>Always aim to do better.</li><li>Care for others.</li><li>Find balance between studies and interests.</li></ul>Bob also gave some ideas about how to achieve each of the goals. He encouraged students to practice speaking English because English language is critical if they are to become extraordinary students. He also encouraged students to further improve their mother tongue languages when they are not in the academic building. Additionally, he asked students to set goals and be proud of every step they take in achieving those goals.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_3228_1ebdaefd71.JPG">In order to better improve learning efficiency and build a bridge between teaching and learning, AIC has updated the learning pad equipment in this academic year. We provide each student with a brand-new learning iPad as a teaching aid, academic communication between teachers and students, and search engine function with controllable officials to provide students with more rich knowledge exploration in their studies.The three-day student orientation enables students and teachers to become familiar with each other and better integrate into future learning and school life. "The first lesson of the beginning of school" came to a successful conclusion in the laughter of the mentor and the students. The bridge of emotional communication is built between the students and the teachers. May the future of AICers be bright and full of nice surprises.

CAS is an essential part of the IB Diploma Programme. It allows students to develop their personal and interpersonal skills by learning new skills, planning activities, and working collaboratively.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_3420_147fc57fa4.JPG">CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, and Service activities.Some Creativity activities are band, board games, and movie analysis.Some Activity activities are badminton, basketball, and volleyball.Service activities include gardening and a Student-Run Newsletter called 'NOW.'There are also some school-run activities, such as Event Planning, MUN, and student council. These school-run activities are created to develop and teach students 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.For AIC's CAS for the school year of 2022-2023, we decided to involve all students from F1 to DP2 to participate. The goal is to strengthen and build the school community by bringing students from different classes and ages together. This year we also made IG2 students make their after-school activities, such as animation, baking, and charity clubs.&nbsp;&nbsp;<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_3381_718e881c79.JPG">During this year's sign-up fair, students were encouraged to create posters and present their activities to help them develop their communication and marketing skills. We believe that students learn how to promote their CAS. They learn valuable skills for future university and job interviews.

本周, AIC的全体师生以饱满的热情投入到新学期的学习当中。在AIC校园里, 在课堂内外都可以找到老师们对教学的激情爆发，教师促进和构建了不同的学习方法，如交际、探究以及协作教学和学习策略。每一位老师和学生都将怀着克服任何挑战的巨大决心开始新学年。<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_3806_cd6b752cc1.JPG">AIC是一所以英语为核心教学语言的学校。我们的英语系采用多种教学法，有助于提高学生的必要语言技能。IGCSE英语作为第一语言课程举办了一场画廊展览演讲，不仅庆祝了第一单元的结束，而且评估学生的学习情况。本单元结束庆祝活动让学生有机会使用课堂上学到的演示和演讲技能，并建立他们在公开英语演讲中的信心。对口语的信心会产生多米诺骨牌效应，从而使阅读、写作和听力等语言技能同时发挥作用。因此，学生将不断面临提高英语水平的挑战，并将自信地用英语读、写、听和说。<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_3789_549d5119b5.JPG">本次画廊展览演讲是一次性能总结性评估，是IB和IGCSE推广的教学方法的重要组成部分。学生在具体的实践中获得学习技能，例如: 学生们首先选择一个城市, 以设计、绘画等方式, 学习如何展示与辩论他们获得该城市的具体信息。在《英语作为第一语言教学大纲》的第一单元中，主题是旅行，语言技能是阅读主要思想以及学习撰写有效段落。课堂上所做的活动侧重于阅读和写作技能，通过这些技能，我们讨论、辩论和写作了人们为什么旅行以及谁是著名的旅行者。作为一名教师，Yoke Lin将这四种语言技能融入教学中，作为单元结束，学生们设计了海报并庆祝本单元的结束。这里的关键是为学生创造机会，展示和使用他们所学的语言技能，向观众有说服力地介绍为什么他们应该参观他们选择的城市。<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_3893_c9b22f8339.JPG">

All of us here at AIC have kick started the new Academic Year 2022-2023 with great enthusiasm and energy for teaching and learning! Such bursts of energetic passion for teaching and learning can be found within and without the classrooms with teachers facilitating and scaffolding differentiated learning pedagogies like communicative, inquiry-based as well as collaborative teaching and learning strategies. Each individual teacher and student will start the new academic year with great determination to overcome any challenges that come our way.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_3789_549d5119b5.JPG">AIC is a school that uses and emphasizes English as our core language of instruction. Our English Department uses multiple pedagogies that will help improve the necessary language skill sets in students. The IGCSE English as First Language class held a Gallery Exhibition Presentation to not only celebrate the end of Unit 1 but to assess the students’ learning.&nbsp;This end of unit celebration gives students a chance to use the presentation and speaking skills they have learned in class as well as to build their confidence in speaking publicly in English. The confidence in speaking will have a domino effect whereby the attending language skills like reading, writing and listening will improve simultaneously. As such, students will be constantly challenged to improve their English language and will confidently reading, write, listen and speak in English.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_3806_cd6b752cc1.JPG">This Gallery Exhibition Presentation is a Performance Summative Assessment which is an important part of the approaches to teaching and learning promoted by the IB and IGCSE. The students learn by doing - i.e. they were given specific information where they design, draw and learn how to present and argue for the cities of their choice. In Unit 1 of the English as First Language Syllabus, the theme is Travel and the language skills are reading for main ideas as well as learning to write effective paragraphs. The activities done in class focus on the reading and writing skills whereby we discussed, argued and wrote about why people travel and who were the famous travelers. As the teacher, I have embedded the 4 language skills into the teaching and as an end, the students designed the posters and to celebrate the end of the unit. The key here is to create opportunities for students to display and use the language skills they have learned to present persuasively to audiences why they should visit the cities of their choice. <img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/DSC_3893_c9b22f8339.JPG">

Last Friday, AIC Student Council held elections for its 2022-2023 academic year Executive Committee. We had candidates for the Executive Council give their campaign speeches in front of the entire school during the dedicated assembly time. 阳光明媚，春意正浓，AIC迎来了本学期的第二个教学周。视觉艺术老师ChauKeen组织DP的艺术生们前往深圳开展了一场实地考察。ChauKeen老师带领着DP学生前往深圳两个美术馆开展关于“展览”的调查研究。早上八点整，师生们从学校出发，于九点半抵达福田区木星美术馆。进入展馆前，ChauKeen老师首先给同学们讲解了如何系统性地去观看一场展览，并留下若干探究性问题，让学生带着思考去观赏展览作品。<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/_eb79af4f86.jpg"><img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/2_18032f7245.jpg">第一个展览是《吴帆x李美京：记忆物语》当代纤维艺术展 ，她们以自然元素为媒介，艺术家的记忆与经历为灵感，使用纤维为材料，传达出艺术家对人类自然间的平衡、过去与未来的深刻理解。<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/_37879c8f46.jpg"><img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/2_b489960e43.jpg">观赏完吴帆与李美京的纤维装置展览后， 学生们又去参观了广州美术学院水彩研究生的师生展。艺术学院的师生展和典雅庄重的装置艺术展形成了鲜明的反差。鲜艳明亮的展览空间刺激着同学们的眼球。<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/2_e0bd8a1ea7.jpg"><img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/_99b389cd33.jpg">稍息过后，学生们又去观赏了《设计的价值在中国》这次展览的内容是关于来自英国V&amp;A的250件，回溯了百年内的中国设计的发展，探讨着设计的意义为何物。<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/1_1cd96111cd.jpg"><img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/2_e24df33b18.jpg">最后，同学们在《穿越边界:日本建筑展》 领略了日系建筑背后的深思。

Second semester has started for our AIC students. The visual art teacher Mr. ChauKeen organized DP art students to carry out a field trip to Shenzhen.Mr. ChauKeen led DP students to two art galleries in Shenzhen to do some research on [exhibition]. At 8 o'clock in the morning, the teachers and students set out from the school space arrived at the Jupiter Art Museum in Futian District at 9:30.Before entering the exhibition hall, Mr. ChauKeen explained to the students how to watch an exhibition systematically, He also left a number of exploratory questions for students to think while watching the exhibition works.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/_eb79af4f86.jpg"><img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/2_18032f7245.jpg">The first exhibition is called "Fan Wu X Mi-Kyoung Lee: The Reflective Memories" contemporary fiber art exhibition. They use natural elements as the media, artists' memories and experiences as inspiration, and fibers as materials to convey artists' profound understanding of the balance between human nature, the past and the future.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/_37879c8f46.jpg"><img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/2_b489960e43.jpg">The second art exhibition we visited was a teacher-student exhibition held by the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. The exhibition&nbsp;and the elegant and solemn installation art exhibition form a sharp contrast. The delightful exhibition attracted our attention.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/2_e0bd8a1ea7.jpg"><img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/_99b389cd33.jpg">After a short pause, the students went to see "The Value of Design in China", an exhibition about 250 pieces from the British V&amp;A, which traced the development of Chinese design in the past 100 years and explored the meaning of design.Finally, in "Crossing the Border: Japanese Architecture Exhibition", the students experienced the deep thinking behind Japanese architecture.

<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/_0b09ce0958.jfif">3月30日，2023年度中文阅读擂台赛（Battle of Books）正式开战。中文阅读擂台赛由AISG主办，愿景是提供一个平台，激发学生的阅读兴趣，让学生爱上阅读。本届比赛分为两个年级组别：初中组（Grade 6-8）和高中组（Grade 9-10）。AIC派出了一支由9年级和10年级学生组成的队伍参加高中组的比赛。参赛的七位同学分别是：IG1的Yauyau Qin，IG2的Gabrielle Lei、Cindy Xie、Bella Cai、Lin、Roy Zhou和William Wei。他们从去年11月接到参赛任务之后，就按照商定的方案，各自完成指定的书目阅读。在长达5个月的时间里，他们经历了疫情、期末考试、寒假以及IG模考，在应对繁重的学习任务之余，坚持阅读，以佳作滋养心灵，踏上了一次难得的阅读之旅。<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/640_cebb383ea3.jfif">比赛日当天，AIC团队的成员与来自广州其他国际学校的同学一道，以书会友，共赴一场阅读的盛宴。在东道主AISG的精心组织和盛情招待下，高中组别的六支队伍进入了第一轮淘汰赛。在这个比赛环节中，选手们需要在答题纸上完成60道选择题和40道填空题，总分为100分。AIC的学子们凭借对作品语言风格的熟练把握和对书中细节的高度关注获得了95分，顺利进入决赛。决赛以抢答的形式决出胜负，答对一题获得一分，答错一题则扣掉一分。AIC的参赛选手们对于答题很有把握，但求胜心切，数次出现失误，提前按下抢答按钮，屡屡失分。在战况不利的关键时刻，大家稳定心态专注比赛，发挥团队合作的力量相互配合，最终做到了每答必对，击败了来自AISG的队伍，惜败于黄埔区华外同文外国语学校和科学城爱莎外籍人员子女学校，获得了本届擂台赛高中组的季军。通过这次比赛，AIC的学子体验了阅读的快乐，积累了竞赛经验，结交了同龄的朋友，铸就了团队精神，收获了站上奖台的荣耀。这不仅是一场享受阅读的盛宴，更是一条迈向成长的赛道。<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/640_1_26b6b4406b.jfif">祝愿AIC的每一位学子都能在阅读中探索无限可能的世界！

<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/_0b09ce0958.jfif">On March 30th, the 2023 Chinese Reading Challenge (Battle of the Books) officially began.Chinese Battle of the Books was hosted by AISG, with the vision of providing a platform to develop a strong interest in reading. This competition is divided into two grade groups: the junior high school group (Grade 6-8) and the high school group (Grade 9-10). AIC sent a team consisting of 9th and 10th grade students to participate in the high school group competition.The students participating are Yauyau Qin from IG1, Gabrielle Lei, Cindy Xie, Bella Cai , Lin, Roy Zhou, and William Wei from IG2. After receiving the competition task in November last year, they completed the designated book reading according to the agreed plan. During a period of up to 5 months, they experienced the epidemic, final exams, winter vacation, and IG mock exams. In addition to dealing with heavy learning tasks, they persisted in reading, nourishing their souls with excellent works, and embarked on a rare journey of reading.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/640_cebb383ea3.jfif">On the day of the competition, members of the AIC team, together with students form other international schools in Guangzhou, went to a reading feast to make friends through books. Under the careful organization and hospitality of the host AISG, six teams from the high school group entered the first round of knockout rounds. In this competition, the contestants need to complete 60 multiple-choice questions and 40 fill in the blank questions on the answer sheet, with a total score of 100 points. The students of AIC earned 95 points with their proficiency in the language style of their works and high attention to the details in the book, successfully advancing to the finals.The final is decided through a quick answer, with one point awarded for one correct answer and one point deducted for one wrong answer. The AIC contestants are very confident in answering questions, but they are eager to win. They have made mistakes several times and pressed the answer button in advance, repeatedly losing points. At a critical moment when the battle situation was unfavorable, everyone remained stable and focused on the game, leveraging the power of teamwork to cooperate with each other. In the end, AIC team achieved every answer right and defeated the team from AISG. They were defeated by the Affiliated foreign Launuage School of SCNU and ISA Science City international school. Finally AIC won the third place in the high school group of the competition.<img src="http://www.aicib.org:8443/uploads/640_1_26b6b4406b.jfif">Through this competition, AIC students experienced the joy of reading, accumulated competition experience, made friends with peers, forged team spirit, and gained the honor of standing on the podium. UBC's visit marked the beginning of overseas prestigious universities' visits.Alana Green provided comprehensive information to the students about the University of British Columbia, including detailed introductions to their basic information, academic features, and program strengths. At the same time, she offered valuable advice regarding UBC applications. This grand event featured a total of 49 teams from international schools across Guangzhou, Foshan, Shenzhen, and other cities, with the AIC team making a notable appearance as Team 47. Team leader Chiara demonstrated outstanding leadership, and the team members included Alexander, Ivan, Asha, Roy, William, Zac, and Alex.The ASDAN Business Simulation Competition was a novel experience for the entire AIC team. From the initial auction phase to the subsequent roadshows and operational activities, each step embodied the team members' dedication and wisdom. As the team leader, Chiara extends sincere gratitude to every team member for their hard work and takes pride in the outstanding achievements. In this competition, the AIC team secured two gold medals, one for the "First Round Presentation" and another for being selected as the "the best company chosen by judges in business battle“, bringing honor to AIC. Additionally, the team's advisor, Mr. Marx GOMEZ, received the Advisor Award!Special thanks to Alex for designing and producing the poster, Alexander and Roy for handling operational activities, and Ivan and Asha for jointly managing the roadshow with Chiara. Appreciation goes to all of you for your dedicated efforts over the weekend, contributing to the overall success of the team. In the financing roadshow, the AIC team stood out and secured the first-place position.This competition not only enhanced students' teamwork and practical experience but also showcased the outstanding talents of AIC students in the field of business. Admission officers from Wesleyan College and the University of California, Santa Cruz visited AIC, conducting college presentations for students. This invaluable opportunity allowed students to gain insights and seek guidance as they approach the university phase.Wesleyan College is a private liberal arts college located in Macon, Georgia, USA. Founded in 1836, it is the first university globally to confer degrees to women. The student life at the college involves various committees, clubs, and organizations, emphasizing academic honor societies and leadership groups. The college's commitment to women's education, diverse academic programs, and vibrant campus life collectively contribute to its status as the earliest and outstanding institution globally.On the other hand, the University of California, Santa Cruz, a member of the esteemed UC system, situated in the scenic Santa Cruz mountains, is known for its open academic culture and a focus on research and innovation. This event envisioned as the beginning of a new tradition at AIC, was specifically organized to provide a stimulating and collaborative environment for our DP2 students who are currently working on their Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essays.&nbsp;&nbsp;The TOK essay is a vital component of the IB curriculum and challenges students to reflect on the nature of knowledge and how we come to understand the world. This assessment component, constituting 67% of the final TOK assessment, requires students to explore two Areas of Knowledge (AOKs), drawing upon diverse examples from each AOK and building arguments that reflect a deep understanding of the nature of knowledge.On this day, the staff room was reimagined as the setting for the TOK Café. It became a space where students met with subject experts from the different Areas of Knowledge (AOKs) to discuss their knowledge claims, examples, and arguments. We hoped this interaction would provide invaluable insights and perspectives, enriching the students' essays and broadening their horizons. Adding to the café's charm, Chris, our Head of School, donned the hat of an in-house barista. With a welcoming smile, he skillfully served hot cups of coffee and hot chocolate, enhancing the warm and inviting atmosphere of our café.&nbsp;The choice of a café setting is deliberate and symbolically significant. It represents a shift from the conventional academic setting to a more relaxed yet intellectually stimulating environment. This ambiance echoes the belief that learning and critical thinking are not confined to textbooks and assessments but integral to everyday conversations and experiences. The TOK Café represents more than just an academic exercise. It embodies the ethos of the IB and our school's dedication to developing well-rounded, critically-minded individuals. We hope our students can have these "TOK chats" with their friends, family, and future colleagues even after they have graduated high school.
